Here is this week’s Around the Web news roundup of Star Wars and beyond.

Book News

  • Via Amazon, Jedi Bibliothek spotted a new Star Wars book featuring some wonderful illustrations by artist Brian Rood. The book is titled Star Wars: The Original Trilogy Stories.
  • For those wondering how many Star Wars: The Clone Wars episodes Christie Golden’s Dark Disciple is based on, the answer is eight. You can also check out the synopsis over on Random House’s official website.
  • Star Wars Books has a shot of the new canon timeline which includes all the novels up to Aftermath, as well as a spot for “Battlefront“.
  • And on the wild shot that you have all 46 of Christie Golden‘s books, send her a pic, and she’ll send you an autographed copy of Dark Disciple.
  • Comicbook.com has an interview with Del Rey Editor Shelly Shapiro.
  • Brazil has rolled out another Star Wars book cover, this time for Troy Denning‘s Crucible.

  • Author Drew Karpyshyn posted an excerpt for his upcoming short story collection A Minor Malevolent Spirit. Drew also confirmed that he will be at Star Wars Celebration, but no word yet on his official schedule.
  • And lastly, Paul S. Kemp revealed what book he’s working on now.

“How’d it go?” Egil asked.

Nix couldn’t quite look the priest in the eyes. “Well enough, I guess.”

“Shite,” Egil said, no doubt reading Nix’s body language. “Clarify.”

Nix cleared his throat. “Well…he said I doomed us all.”

“Fak, man! You think that means it went pretty well?”

Comic News

  • Darth Vader #3 is going to a 2nd printing.
  • StarWars.com has a five page preview of Kanan: The Last Padawan #1.
  • Dark Times fans will want to check out a concept poster Doug Wheatley did for a past Celebration.

Convention & Event News

For those heading to Star Wars Celebration Anaheim, don’t miss out on the all Star Wars costume group photo. If you’re dressing up, you’ll want to be in it, and if you’re not dressing up, you’ll want to find a spot on a balcony to get a good view. It’s always awesome to see everyone dressed up in a massive group. The group shot will be at 9:00 AM on Friday April 17 in the Grand Plaza area in front of the Anaheim Convention Center. Be sure to get there by 8:30 AM in order to be included.

However the big news this week is that the Star Wars stand alone movie directors will be at a panel called “Conversations with Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank” on Sunday 11:00 AM to Noon at the Celebration Stage.

In other news, Star Wars author John Jackson Miller will have a writing seminar on Saturday at 6:30 in the Star Wars University room.

Movie & Television News

  • The latest Star Wars rumor puts Ben Mendelsohn in a lead role next to Felicity Jones in Rogue One according to Deadline.
  • There also appears to be an issue with the name of Rogue One which has lead to Disney making a deal to not use it this summer. Check out Jedi News for more details, but it basically boils down to Hollywood contracts and Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.
  • At one point or another, you’ve probably seen the awesome clip of a Star Wars anime film. Well now it’s officially been revealed as a pet project by artist Paul Johnson who drew the whole thing by himself. It’s accompanied with music by Zak Rahman and audio technician Joseph Leyva. The short film is simply called “Tie Fighter“. Now you can enjoy the finished product in all its glory.
  • According to Deadline, Steven Spielberg will be directing Ready Player One.
  • We heard last year that Arnold Schwarzenegger would be a in a zombie movie and now the trailer for Maggie is out. This actually looks really good. It’ll be out May 8th.
  • I love westerns, and Slow West looks pretty stylish. The trailer takes a while to get good, so stick with it. It’ll be out May 15th.

Toy & Collectible News

  • Having already geeked out over the Revoltech Stormtrooper, I’m super excited about their newly revealed Boba Fett!
  • With Star Wars Celebration Anaheim, there is going to be a lot of exclusive collectibles. Jedi Temple Archives has a vintage Kenner poster, Hallmark has some exclusive ornaments, Norse Legion has a necklace, and there are many more. If you’re trying to collect everything, keep you eye on Jedi News and Rebelsum.com.
  • According to Andrew’s Toyz, Hasbro is discontinuing the Saga Legends line.
  • Disneyland has unveiled their 60th anniversary R2-D60 figure.
